Telemundo and mun2‘ s, held the second of five concerts dubbed Descarga, riveting a multitude of Regional Mexican music fans during the biggest free summer concert taking place at “5 Towers” Universal City Walk – Universal Studios, Studio City, Ca., Sun. – Aug. 10, 2014.

The annual event in its 8th year, kicked off Sat.- July 26, 2014, at the Freemont Street Experience [for its 3rd time] in Las Vegas, with performances by Regional Mexican acts Noel Torres, Martin Castillo, Adriel Favela, Helen Ochoa, and Jonatan Sanchez.
For the first time Descarga concert series will also be held Sat.- Aug. 16, 2014, at RiverEdge Park in Chicago, before returning to Universal City Walk ‘s “5 Towers” stage, for this year’s final two concerts to be held on Sun. – Aug. 24 and Sun. – Aug. 31, 2014.
During the 3 hour event, prices and gift certificates, and tickets for Luis Miguel’s upcoming concert, through raffles were handed out by Spanish Broadcasting System’s KLAX 97.9 FM La Raza [Los Angeles] on-air personalities and DJs.
Anticipation was high for Banda heartthrob and newcomer Jesus Mendoza “El Rayo De Oro,” which according to screams from young female fans has quite a following.The Hollywood Times, caught up with the young Regional Mexican singer before hitting the stage to get his take on being part of the line up of the Descarga Los Angeles concert series, his current single and future plans.
“I am very happy to be back in Los Angeles and to be the opening act of Descarga LA concert series, my fans are already here in anticipation of me hitting the stage. I currently have a romantic single and video out titled “El Bautizo” [“The Baptism”], but the next single that we anticipate on promoting is titled “Mis Tierras” [“My Lands”] that chronicles the journey of immigrants coming from Mexico to the United States.”
Mendoza set the stage for the charismatic and very talented all female Tejano act Las Fenix, comprised of five sisters, who hail from Houston, Texas, and are currently promoting the single “Llama,” of their current and sixth studio album titled “Heliopolis,” available through iTunes, at Walmart, or at www.lasfenix.com
Through songs like “Cosquillitas,” and “Que no se pare la Fiesta,” they proved to be much more than classy adolescents [ladies] with a taste for fashion, and that beyond beauty, they are a musical power house to be reckoned with.
Las Fenix, revealed to Hollywood Times, that their album “Heliopolis,” was recorded with non other than Mr. Abraham Quintanilla, the father of slain Tejano singer Selena, [considered the Queen of Tejano music] at his Corpus Christi – Texas, Q Productions studio. “For us it was a great honor for the chance to work with someone of such a caliber, with so much professionalism, where we not only learned, but built a genuine bond and friendship,” added the group. “Suzette Quintanilla [Selena’s sister] has also help us with our fashion style and look, and her advice has helped us with the transition of us going from young girls to adolescents.”
Las Fenix, added… “We are humbly grateful for the opportunity to be part of Mun2’s Descarga concert series and to perform on Universal City Walk’s 5 Towers stage, we had a great reception here in LA, and we hope to be back.”
Among Telemundo talent that were present, included the likes of Jorge Bernal and Andrea Escalona, both, host of Suelta La Sopa, television personality Raúl González, who joined Telemundo in March, after 13 years at Univision’s Despierta America, and Yarel Ramos, host of Mun2’s “Reventón.”
On stage, beloved Telemundo television personality Raúl González, was presented a [Telemundo and Mun2] Descarga welcoming cake, and had a few words.“How are the people of Los Angeles?, Like I learned when I first came to Los Angeles 13 years ago with my previous home, is La Raza, like they say, it’s a pleasure to be here in my new home, Telemundo. See you all soon, and please don’t forget Premios Tu Mundo [Your World Awards] on Telemundo 52. It will be fabulous, so don’t miss it,” said González, before sticking his face in the cake and [jokingly] commenting how good it was.
Spanish Broadcasting System’s KLAX 97.9 FM La Raza [Los Angeles] on-air personality Stephanie Himonidis Sedano known on-air as “La Chiquibaby,”along with Ramos, host of Mun2’s “Reventón,” were honored to introduce narco-corridos [folk tales based on narco culture] sensation Codigo FN, the evenings headliners, who through their reception and performance, made all attendees efforts worthwhile.
