American Actor, director and producer Gary Marshall died today at 81, from complications of pneumonia.
Marshall was the creator responsible for some of the most iconic TV sitcoms of the 1970’s including “Happy Days”, ” Mork and Mindy” and Laverne and Shirley”, which co-starred Marshall’s sister Penny Marshall (Actor, Producer and Director). He was also the director of the 1990 box office hit “Pretty Woman” and directed Anne Hathaway in the teen comedy “The Princess Diaries.”
His 1970’s TV creations launched careers of some of our most beloved stars, such as the cool Henry Winkler , who’s catch phrase “AAAYYY” and leather biker jacket in “Happy Days” started a 1950’s revival , then there was the young, rainbow suspender wearing ,kinetic comedian, Robin Williams in “Mork and Mindy”. Julia Roberts shot to stardom in “Pretty Woman” , and Anne Hathaway became a household name as the teenage Mia Thermopolis in “The Princess Diaries”.
He leaves behind , his wife Barbara Marshall and children Kathleen Marshall, Scott Marshall and Lori Marshall as well as siblings Penny Marshall and Ronny Hallin.
