“Even though my guitar doesn’t have a nick name, she travels and goes everywhere with me, it’s special, since it’s the first guitar I bought with my own money,” explains Kevin Rubio Gutiérrez known artistically as Chayín Rubio, the [charismatic] twenty-three year old singer, songwriter who hails from Guasave, Sinaloa [Mexico], and who Latin Power Music, the same [independent] music record label that brought and introduced 3BallMTY to the world, is banking on with the release [Fri. – May 11th] of his debut album EL Ahijado Consentido [Spanish for The Spoiled Godson].
“Music was always there, growing up I felt it and felt I could interpret it, then at fifteen I also realized I could also write [compose], and everything just developed from there,” explains Rubio who penned nine out of the thirteen songs on album, six by himself, two with fellow label mate America Sierra, who coincidently shares co-writing credit, and was also featured on 3BallMTY’s [2011] debut album and first single “Inténtalo,” and also co-writing credit on one song with Latin Grammy award-winning songwriter and producer Adrián Pieragostino. “I’m from Guasave, Sinaloa, so I started to play music at fifteen [years old], me a couple of local friends formed a group, and we would play anywhere we could locally. After that, I uploaded a couple of videos to Youtube, and I believe that’s what caught someone’s attention at Latin Power Music who contacted me, it all grew from there.”
As to why El Ahijado Consentido [The Spoiled Godson] ?, “I feel blessed, at the same time humbly spoiled with everything that has happened with the backing of Latin Power Music, Fonovisa, and Universal Music Latin Entertainment,” adds Rubio, who also feels is the way he carries himself, the love and passion in what he writes, and ultimately how he interprets his songs [compositions] that he hopes is what will [help him] keep connecting with his growing fan base. “It’s a blessing that my dream is now a reality, and to be able to do this professionally, what more could I ask for.”
