On Sunday July 10th, at the Warner Grand Theater, Daniel Tyler Pohnke presented his creative mission statement, Creating a Brave New World which involved music, dance, meditations, and audience participation. The spirit of happiness and hope emanated throughout the evening, as this artist shared his vision of how each of us can actively engage in our lives to create our own brave new world. The entire program had the aura of the 60’s/70’s peace and love spiritual movement, where each song professed a deep message.
Daniel Tyler Pohnke is an International performer and TEDx speaker. He and his wife Mai Segev-Pohnke, who produced the show, had traveled throughout India and Israel…now the couple wanted to present a unique interactive, cross-cultural theatrical experience to audience’s in the United States.
“This show is culmination of all the things Mai and I have been working on for the last eight years.”
“It’s a very creative and immersive way to bring Empowering Entertainment that encompasses all that we do – music, dance, different cultures, meditation, multimedia and practical techniques anyone can use to attain a better life. When you are happier, that ripples out into the world and affects others as well,” Daniel had explained.
Dave Koz, Grammy nominated, top contemporary jazz artist/radio host was a special guest of the Pohkne’s that night. He has known Daniel for many years and and had also traveled with Daniel around India.
Museically Inclined, TheHollywood360 interviewed Dave Koz after the performance.
Dave Koz – This was a very full musical experience… not only hearing his music, but the accompanying artistic accoutrements…the dancing, meditation, wonderful musicianship onstage with him, and the crowd participation. Coming to this event…it’s not a concert, it’s not somebody playing songs one after the other… it’s a whole immersive experience, if you have an open heart to try and make the world a better place. Believe me, we need this. After seeing the show, one can walk away and be inspired that, ‘I can do something.’
How do you think “Creating a Brave New World” concert/theater experience fits into the entertainment world?
Dave Koz – It’s completely unique so there’s no better way to sell it, if you will, than to see it. It’s very hard to describe. If I was going to talk to somebody who doesn’t know Daniel and his music, and try to describe the experience, it’s complicated. It’s not like going to a religious experience or a meditation experience because it’s still a concert …it’s kind of a hybrid. Hybrids sometimes are a little tough, they fall in the middle of things that we know…and create like a new tab, a new label for this kind of experience.
As I told Daniel, you just have to do one and that will lead you to the next one and the next one. I think this will generate a lot of buzz. Never before has there been a better time for an experience like this.
The music was phenomenal. (He had strings… a full band.) Please comment on the musicality of the performance.
Dave Koz – A lot of work went into that. From my own experience, I know what it takes to put on a production like this. This was a very precision production. These are people who know what they’re doing and it was presented in a very open, palpable, easy going way so it didn’t put anybody off. If you’re not into meditation…it didn’t matter. This was something anybody could come to and be moved by.
Talk about your friendship with Daniel.
Dave Koz – I love Daniel Pohnke. I owe a big part of my life to him. He used to work for our company and that’s how I first met him. We go back many, many years before his transformation. I knew the old Daniel…he was the typical frat boy, party guy. When I re-met him many years later, it was the same person but the real person was coming out then. He helped unearth that in me as well. We had a wonderful experience in India. India will show you, she’s like the Mother… we call her, Mother India, she’s the best tour guide ever and show you exactly what you need, even if you don’t know what that is.
After the performance that evening Mai Segev-Pohnke congratulated her husband, Daniel Tyler Pohnke with a huge hug and passionate kiss. Daniel Tyler Pohnke had thanked his wife profusely onstage for co-producing the show and pushing him to be the man he always knew he could be.
The performance of Creating a Brave New World was just another step by the Pohnke’s in their journey to spread their mission statement: “We all have ability to create our own brave new world… we believe that your brave new world is different than my brave new world, and when we are living authentically there is no competition. The goal for Creating a Brave New World is to invoke the greatness in each and every one of us. It will help you ask yourself, “What would my Brave New World look like if I were to be living fully and totally engaging in my own power and special expression.”
BRAVE NEW WORLD (SONG…CHORUS)
So, come on Angels
So, come on Angels
With open eyes
With open eyes
There’s a Brave New World
There’s a Brave New World
__________
In the rising tide
In the rising tide
Make up your mind
Make up your mind
And we better believe
And we better believe
We can change!
We are the CHANGE!
__________
A train is coming
Will we lay down
And fall victim
To fear and doubt
With wide open hearts
Let’s live out loud
Humanity is the target now
__________
Come on angels
With open eyes
The Time is Now
__________
Make up your mind
The Time is Now
