KCETLink Media Group Announces Election Coverage Featuring A-List Stars

KCETLink Media Group, a leading national independent nonprofit public broadcast and digital network, which includes both Southern California’s KCET public television service as well as the Link TV national satellite network,~announced today the online and on-air launch of two key election initiatives designed to help voters this election season.

As part of the “ Your Choice. Your Voice.” campaign, KCET and Link TV will begin running public service announcements (PSA’s) curated from a variety of organizations in California and across the U.S. dedicated to encouraging Americans to vote this election season. Also, KCET’s online voter resource BALLOT BRIEF has launched “Props in a Minute,” a series of one-minute video explanations for each of the 17 ballot measures to help voters understand the complex propositions on Californian’s ballot.

Earlier this year, KCETLink Media Group announced the “ ]Your Choice. Your Voice.” non-partisan initiative dedicated to the importance of voting spearheaded by actress and voting activist Kate Walsh (“Private Practice,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Fargo”). In her public service announcement Walsh asks viewers to look beyond the politicking and make an impact on critical election issues such as Women’s rights, minimum wage, health care, climate change, and immigration, while recognizing that voting is a privilege that many people in other countries may not have.

With a particular emphasis on diversity and a goal of appealing to multicultural voters of all ages, the campaign partners KCETLink Media Group with six other local and national organizations representing diverse constituencies. The public service
announcements address a variety of groups and demographics while featuring celebrities that include George Takei, John Cho, Edward James Olmos, Vic Mensa and other notable influencers.  The “ Your Choice. Your Voice.

PSA’s will run on KCET in Southern California and Link TV nationwide starting today through the national election on Tues., Nov. 8.

AIGA, the professional association for design, in partnership with The League of Women Voters: “Get Out The Vote” targets Latinos (in Spanish with Edward James Olmos.

APIAVote: “Voice Your Vote” with George Takei, John Cho, Constance Wu, Sonal Shah, Vincent Rodriguez III and Joey “Q” Quenga targets Asians.

Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk: “Your Voice. Your Vote.” targets voters with disabilities.

“Props in a Minute” Online Videos

To help voters understand the complex propositions on California’s ballot, KCETLink is running a series of one-minute explanations for each of the 17 ballot measures called “Props in a Minute.” KCETLink’s Vice President of Public Affairs and SOCAL CONNECTED Anchor Val Zavala runs voters through the key points of each proposition in 60 seconds, utilizing fun graphics and easy-to-understand language. Each one-minute video concludes with what a “yes” or “no”
vote will mean. This November’s propositions deal with a wide range of issues including the death penalty, prescription drug prices, banning plastic bags, taxes for education, and legalizing marijuana.

Each week through Nov. 8, two explainers will roll out online on both linktv.org/ballotbrief and kcet.org/ballotbrief as well as on-air on KCET in Southern California.

KCET’s award-winning newsmagazine series SOCAL CONNECTED launched online voter resource [ http://www.kcet.org/ballotbrief ]BALLOT BRIEF which features videos, news posts, blogs and more to help voters make sense of
the election issues. The BALLOT BRIEF online destination will be continually refreshed over the next few months, giving voters updates breaking down the party platforms for each Presidential candidate and what they will commit to do if elected. In
addition to the “Props in a Minute” video series and the “ Your Choice. Your Voice.” PSAs, BALLOT BRIEF features the latest on the California ballot measures, updates on the United States Senate race and provides
additional voter resources.
