Essence Atkins Speaks Up About Workplace Harassment Among Minorities As We Honor MLK Day

As Oscar nominations were released this week. we see an incredible lack of women directors and diversity on the list. This has become a regular issue during the awards season spurring further conversation and frustration in Hollywood around diversity and inclusion.

The prevalence of workplace discrimination is vast, and it affects black women the most – 25% of black women are harassed. Blacks reported a 60% higher rate of discrimination compared to whites, and black women filed 28.6 percent of pregnancy discrimination charges, despite making up only 14.3 percent of the female labor force.

In an effort to recognize MLK Day, Essence Atkins has joined forces with #NotMe  as an online Brand Ambassador for MLK day and Black History Month in an effort to end harassment and discrimination in the workplace. Stay tuned for her story and videos on Instagram this MLK Day: @essence_says
