LA seminal punk band, X, wants to release a live recording (the first one ever with the original lineup) of shows done in Latin America in 2011 while touring with Pearl Jam.  The Kickstarter campaign to fund this release is set to launch today, August 15 with a funding goal of $50,000 which, if reached, will see the release of the live recording.

A message from X regarding the Kickstarter:

“Thank you for staying with us the last 40 years! And thank you for funding our project. If we meet our financial goal (which includes mixing & engineering, making & manufacturing rewards, and shipping & handling) we will use the money to keep our 2 vans running and keep ourselves touring. Maybe even get some matching outfits tailor-made…. Gotta come up with something special for the 41st year.”

X is also continuing to celebrate their 40 years together as a band with exclusive events, appearances and performances all the way through to the end of the year.  On August 16th, the band will make a special appearance at the L.A. Dodgers vs. Chicago White Sox game where John Doe will lead the National Anthem and Exene will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.  Three of the four members of X actually hail from Illinois.  Then on August 17&18th X head to Solana Beach for two sold-out shows at the Belly Up and on August 19th the band will return to headline the Saturday Summer concert series at Pershing Square in downtown L.A.  X first headlined the series in 2013 and boasted record-breaking attendance for the series.  On October 13th the seminal L.A. punk band will be celebrated with an expanded Grammy Museum Exhibit featuring an exclusive roof top concert that evening.  In addition, the band continues with live shows across the U.S., running all year long!  The party launched on May 1st with dates currently scheduled through late September.  Additional fall and holiday dates will be announced shortly.

X: 40 Years of Punk in Los Angeles will be displayed on the second floor in the Museum’s Special Exhibits Gallery, set to open on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017. With more artifacts and space than previously planned, the exhibit will give visitors a glimpse into how X’s four original members – Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Billy Zoom, and DJ Bonebrake – quickly established the band as one of the best in the first wave of L.A.’s flourishing punk scene.

In 1977, quickly established themselves as one of the best bands in the first wave of LA’s flourishing punk scene; becoming legendary leaders of a punk generation.  Featuring vocalist Exene Cervenka, vocalist/bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom, and drummer DJ Bonebrake, their debut 45 was released on the seminal Dangerhouse label in 1978, followed by seven studio albums released from 1980-1993. Over the years, the band has released several critically acclaimed albums, topped the musical charts with regularity and performed their iconic hits on top television shows such as Letterman and American Bandstand.   X’s first two studio albums, Los Angeles and Wild Gift are ranked by Rolling Stone among the top 500 greatest albums of all time.  The band continues to tour with the original line-up of John DoeExene CervenkaBilly Zoom, and D.J.
