Get ready Los Angeles to party! Bobby Watson, Grammy winner/ Gold & Platinum Record recording artist, and former bass player for Rufus, is going to launch his new band, Rufusized at The Rose Club in Pasadena on October 11th.
For everyone who loved the famous Rufus funky sound that you have danced and grooved to, the new Rufusized band will provide you with all that great music from the past. But now there will be a modern day twist with the likes of lead vocalist, Vonzell Babyv Solomon (3rd place winner of American Idol, 4th season) who wraps her stunning voice around every song with power and grace. She hits those high notes to the heavens while laying out solid gold phrasing. The backup singers’ vocals consisting of Michelle Wolf and Josie Aiello Stewart are layered with scrumptious, penetrating harmonies. The band of veteran players is comprised of Andy Weiner on keys, Chris Bailey on drums, Brian Price on guitar and Bobby Watson on bass. They create the whole funky sound that lays out the foundation for those hit compositions such as “Ain’t Nobody,” “Sweet Thing,” “I’m Every Woman” and “Do You Love What You Feel?”
Bobby Watson commented about the original Rufus band: “Rufus was one of those bands, that was a self-contained unit, we played every day, we rehearsed a lot, we produced our own music. That kind of freedom brought about a lot of magical sounding music.”
He talked about why he is bringing back his new Rufusized band.
“I haven’t been playing this music for a long time. I’ve been playing with other artists’ bands. So I now feel it’s time for me to revitalize that Rufus sound. It seems Chaka and I are the only original members right now playing these songs. I am looking forward to bringing my own feel to the music.”
The opening act for the Rufusized Launch Party will be hilarious comedian Matthew Marcy, a veteran cast member of TMI, Hollywood, LA’s longest sketch comedy show and he also performs weekly at the ACME Comedy Theater in Hollywood.
There will be a red carpet beginning at 6 pm. VIP ticket holders will be able to walk the red carpet and take photos with Bobby Watson and Vonzell Solomon, plus receive a goody bag. There will be celebrity artists walking the red carpet as well. TBA.
The show begins at 7 pm with comedian Matthew Marcy. The Rufusized band’s performance will begin at 8 pm.
