Virtual Reality at Sundance Film Festival New Frontier

This year at the Sundance Film Festival New Frontier on Main Street you can experience Virtual Reality in a myriad of ways.

 

In Kaiju Fury, by Ian Hunter, a dark energy experiment leads to a devastating attack by monstrous Kaiju, and you are standing at ground zero.  You are invited to make your own goggles out of cardboard cut-outs and lenses. A smart phone attaches easily and with headphones you are suddenly standing in the film, 360 degrees.  Viewers can later download the free app and view the film from their own goggles and phone.  Take the VR experience home with you!

In another corner of the room, you can walk the Pacific Coast Trail with Reese Witherspoon in a scene from “Wild,” sit drinking tea with Mongolian pastoral herders or spend an intimate moment with Celebrated Montreal musician Patrick Watson as he composes in his studio.  These are the works of Felix Lajeunesse and Paul Raphael

Climb aboard Birdly and experience being a bird from a first person perspective in a full body virtual reality setup.  As you don the VR goggles and lie down onto the machine, you will be transported to the sky by Max Rheiner.

 

In Zero Point you will find yourself in an entirely new dimension.  With the VR headset by Oculus Rift you will experience combat training simulations to research labs at Stanford, indie game developers and hackers.  This is the future of Virtual Reality.
