February 19, 2022, the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel hosted The Ninth Annual Make-Up Artists & Hairstylists Guild Awards “ MUAHS” that honors outstanding achievements of both makeup artists and hairstylists in motion pictures, television, commercials and live theater.
This years show was hosted by the hilarious Melissa Peterman from Young Sheldon with “Live from the Red Carpet.” Host Frankie Grande. It was a very Glamourous, fun night.
Coming 2 America took home three wins. The Amazon Studios sequel starring Eddie Murphy won for Best Contemporary Make-Up, Best Special Make-Up Effects and Best Contemporary Hair Styling.
NBC’s Saturday Night Live enjoyed three wins: for Best Period and/or Character Make-Up, Best Special Make-up Effects and Best Contemporary Make-Up.
Other film winners included Amazon’s Being the Ricardos for Best Period Hair Styling and/or Character Hair Styling, and Disney’s Cruella for Best Period and/or Character Make-Up.
The show itself was very well directed by Erick Weiss of Honey Sweet Creative.
“It was great to run into my beautiful friend Kate Linder who presented that night… We will be presenting an award together on Saturday at The Harolds… & great to also see super celebrity photographer Billy Bennight covering the red carpet.”
This in-person ceremony also presented special awards. Milla Jovovich presented Christina Smith with the Vanguard Award. Jon Favreau received the IATSE Local 706’s Distinguished Artisan Award virtually and makeup artist Michèle Burke and hairstylist Joy Zapata were received Lifetime Achievement Awards by presenters Paula Wagner and Lauren Schuler Donner.
Doug Jones was presented with the inaugural The Chair Award presented by Sonequa Martin-Green.
Other presenters include Bre-Z, John Brotherton, Isabellea Gomez, Lauren Shuler Donner, Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Paula Wagner, Cedric Yarbrough.
It was also fantastic to meet Jake Asner, grandson of everybody’s beloved late great Ed Asner.
