At the Exposition Le Carrousel Du Louvre in Paris this week-end, June 9th – 11th, Michael Stervinou, Artist, will have his paintings exhibited. 400 artists from all over the world were invited to come and present their works in the stands of this huge gallery.
This year, photography and urban art are being honored. I interviewed Michael two years ago when he was attending the San Diego Fashion Film Festival. He discussed with me how he began painting, “I started painting about twelve years ago. Typically, when I was walking down the street in Paris, I was always looking at the art galleries and I’d ask myself, “OMG, how can they do that? This is superb. This is so beautiful . . . the Picasso, the Rembrandt, the Modigliani, the Dali.” I told myself, “Stop saying I wish . . . just do it.” I bought some canvas and paints and started painting. I fell in love with the material. I kept going.”
The new collection that Michael Stervinou created is called “Atelier 2bis”. He told me that these paintings are dealing with an evolution of his art. “I was inspired by some artists I saw in the Wynwood Art District. Most of time, there are lots of colors in the street. This art style seduced me and it altered my technic.”
Michael shared what inspired some of the different paintings he will be displaying at the Art Show. First he described his piece, the ” Paris émoi” ( Paris, emotion/stir). It will be 40 x 32 inches. “This painting is the exact illustration of how I get Paris in my mind. I always feel lot of emotions when spending time there. The painting is the way I show it.”
The Artist highlighted a bit of whimsy in “The Eiffel Tour” (la tour Eiffel) as the iconic structure looks to be dancing in the midst of color. Stervinou commented, “The Eiffel Tower is the main symbol of the city, but I made it in Pink. I did it to show that the city doesn’t play by the rules. I am asking the viewer to ask, ‘What do you want with that amazing place?’ You make it yours… Paris is the city of the lovers; the city of fun; of culture; of craziness. I believe Paris has so much to offer. Take it and live it 100 %. All these different sides… these various faces… are what is shown in this painting.”
On a more personal note, Michael revealed some intimate details of other paintings.
“In the collection, I also painted some personal messages… like talking about my best friend (painting “Lui et seulement lui” ” Him and only him”), or making a wink to a special place, like the painting entitled “Wynwood” ( Miami Art District). I also like to broach the subjects of sex, euphoria and fashion.”
When contemplating the main point that motivates his creativity, Michael Stervinou told me, “The key thought for me when I am painting is the ideal of life.”
When viewing this new collection, it is evident that this philosophy permeates every piece.
Another exhibition for Michael Stervinou will be (June 23rd to 30th 2017.) It will take place at the Parisian, Thuillier Art Gallery in Le Marais, a famous district known as a place to go to visit for the best galleries of the capital.
