Huss Hardan, gallery director and co-owner of huZ Galleries is a fan of Figen’s work and introduced the son of Anthony Bernard to him to facilitate prints of two never before seen images of Elvis Presley in performance. He knew immediately that both Figen and Bernard’s work was special. “The most important thing are images that capture and hold one’s attention.”

Figen is a highly sought after photographer and printer specializing in producing iconic images of musicians both established and unknown. In keeping with the music theme, he has photographed legendary recording studios on the west coast, from Capital to East West, to Fox and Skywalker Sound. Figen has rubbed shoulders and captured the likes of established musicians such as Doc Watson, Willie Dixon, George Harrison, Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett, Scott Weiland – just to name a few.

“Musicians will feature an eclectic mix of images,” Figen explained,

“These images go back to 1977 when I photographed George Thorogood in a bar in Santa Cruz, then jump to a range from 1986 to the present.”

huZ Galleries is pleased to unveil the never before seen photos of Elvis Presley taken by Anthony Bernard. The two images were found by Bernard’s son Tony Bernard amidst a vast array of negatives. The images were shot prior to Presley’s fame and the photographer’s sister Crystal Bernard decided that the prints her brother had sent to her were not worth keeping as she had never heard of this Elvis Presley person! The original prints were thrown out. The photos were shot in 1955 in Lubbock Texas, where Presley was performing, backed up by musician Scotty Moore.

Bernard’s son said that Anthony had never shown any of his work before. “I think my Father would be very pleased to show his work at huZ galleries,” said Tony.
