KCET Returns to the 2018 Los Angeles Times The Taste Event Celebrating 25 Years of VISITING WITH HUELL HOWSER. Showcasing A Full Week of Fan Favorite Food Episodes Starting Sunday, September 2
KCET, the nation’s largest independent public television station, plans to return to the Los Angeles Times’ annual culinary event The Taste in spectacular fashion featuring classic food programming and Huell Howser giveaways on Fri. Aug. 31, Sat., Sept. 1 and Sun., Sept. 2 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on the Paramount Studios back lot, 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood. In celebration of 25 years of VISITING WITH HUELL HOWSER, KCET’s booth at The Taste will be on site for three nights promoting special food-themed episodes from the iconic series with fun giveaways including an “amaaazing” Huell inspired fan!
The week following The Taste, KCET has planned special broadcasts revisiting the best of VISITING WITH HUELL HOWSER food episodes. KCET will air fan-favorite, food-themed episodes as a tribute to the program’s 25th anniversary. See how Huell’s love of food began over a quarter of a century ago: visit the iconic Pink’s Hot Dogs stand, tour the beloved Burbank restaurant The Tallyrand and join Huell in his exploration of Cuban food at Porto’s Bakery. The VISITING WITH HUELL HOWSER food specials will kickoff Sun. Sept. 2 at 6 p.m. and air nightly throughout the week of Mon., Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on KCET.
KCET has also launched a Kickstarter campaign from Aug. 5 through Aug. 31 leading up to the broadcast specials in order to “Bring Back Huell’s Greatest Hits.” Donors are able to join forces with KCET to make rare and vintage Huell Howser episodes available for all to enjoy in high definition format, both on-air and streaming. Howser produced more than 1,000 episodes of various public television series (including CALIFORNIA’S GOLD and VISITING WITH HUELL HOWSER) over the course of 30 years. Working in partnership with Chapman University, which owns the rights to the Huell Howser Archive since the time of Howser‘s death in 2013, KCET will treat Southern Californians to this binge-worthy event to ensure that Howser is forever immortalized through his television series dedicated to preserving the culturally diverse and rich history of California.
A Huell Howser online destination lives at kcet.org/huellhowser that includes a schedule of programs, more episodes, clips, articles and news about the legendary host. The food specials are another way KCET allows viewers to explore the food gems of Southern California.

“Donuts” Join Huell as he discovers an obscure part of donut history: the connection between National Donut Day and The Salvation Army.

“Tomatoes” Huell attends the Tomato Festival at the Hollywood Farmers’ Market.

“Fosselman’s” Huell indulges in a summer treat at Fosselman’s Ice Cream in Alhambra, a family-owned business more than 80 years old where the founder’s grandsons still use the family recipe.

“Tamales” Every year in Indio there is a great gathering of International Tamale makers getting ready for the Christmas holidays. Join Huell and Luis as they stuff themselves on every kind of tamale possible.

“Pink’s Chili Dogs” Family owned and operated since 1939, this LA institution has been serving up some of the best chili-cheese hot-dogs this side of Coney Island. Huell gets the lowdown from Mrs. Pink and a handful of enthusiastic patrons, many who have been eating at Pink’s since their childhood.

“Halal Food” Huell learns about the interesting food tradition of halal, a cornerstone of Muslim culture. Join Huell as he meets up with his new friends Eddie and Edina to learn all about it.

“Tallyrand” Driving through Burbank, CA, Huell discovered the Tallyrand restaurant by random chance. When he dropped in for lunch, he discovered a family run restaurant where the employees and customers feel like family.

“Chorizo” A family-run business founded in 1934, Carmelita’s makes some of the best Chorizo in LA with their secret family recipe. Huell gets a tour of the facility and sees first-hand how it’s made.

“Polka Restaurant” Huell joins Albert and Katherine Dabrowski, who are the owners of an amazing restaurant in Glassell Park specializing in Polish food.

“Munch Box” Huell visits The Munch Box in Chatsworth, a popular burger stand that has been around since 1956 and is now officially a historic-cultural landmark.

“Porto’s Bakery” Porto’s Bakery in Glendale is a family-owned and operated business with roots in Cuba. Join Huell as he samples Cuban sandwiches, guava pastries and decadent cakes.
