Indie Video Games Concert Event “Game Theory” at Ford Theaters in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Ford Theatres, alongside Musicians at Play (MAP) Foundation,composer Chad SeiterJuncture Media and Materia Collective present the first-ever GAME THEORY concert on October 5, 2019. 

Award-winning and critically acclaimed composers Chad Seiter (ReCore), Austin Wintory (Journey), Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie),Laura Shigihara (Plants vs. Zombies, Rakuen), Lena Raine (Celeste), and Jake Kaufman (Shovel Knight) have scored music to some of the most popular video games from the past decade. They will each appear on stage during the concert event to introduce and talk about their fantastic work. In addition to their existing scores, the concert will also feature all-new original compositions written specifically for this show.

“This is Musicians at Play’s fourth year presenting a concert at the beautiful Ford Theatres in Hollywood,” says Musicians at Play (MAP) Foundation Executive Director April Williams. “We are proud to celebrate Game Theory with Chad Seiter’s vision and some of today’s most innovative Indie Video Game Composers and their fantastic music, performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony Orchestra.”  

GAME THEORY is an exhilarating and fun night of symphonic & electronic game music and solo performances. Conducted by composer and music director Chad Seiter and featuring the 60-piece Hollywood Studio Symphony OrchestraGAME THEORY provides a rare opportunity to hear these scores performed live and gives an inspiring look into the wonderous world of video games.

AUSTIN WINTORY (Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Journey, The Banner Saga, ABZÛ) has built his career on exploration and curiosity. Austin’s body of work is extensive, including nearly 50 feature films, dozens of video games, and regular concert appearances all around the world. His score for the PlayStation 3 game Journey made history when it became the first-ever GRAMMY®-nominated video game score. 

GRANT KIRKHOPE (Yooka-Laylee, GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, Perfect Dark) has created soundtracks for video games that have sold in excess of 30 million copies. Grant’s musical prowess has spanned multiple styles and genres, from electronic to live orchestral throughout his extensive composing career. 

LAURA SHIGIHARA (Rakuen, Plants vs. Zombies, To the Moon, Deltarune) in addition to being a composer, is a video game developer and creator of the highly acclaimed RPG Rakuen. Laura has worked on more than 30 published titles and has collaborated with world-renowned Japanese composer Yasunori Mitsuda on the official Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross Arrangement Album.

LENA RAINE (Celeste, Guild Wars 2, Hackmud) combines her love of storytelling and music to create her original video game music scores. Lena’s 11-year career has found her composing for the award-winning PC game Guild Wars 2, the widely acclaimed video game Celeste,as well as various EPs and singles of her own work.

JAKE KAUFMAN (Shovel Knight, DuckTales: Remastered, Contra 4) started composing for video games after building his reputation as a cornerstone of the online video game music community. His career extends to composing and writing lyrics for Power Overwhelming, the debut album of parody supergroup Big Bad Boses.

All proceeds from the show will support Musicians at Play Foundation and their mission of education and mentorship through music. Event Sponsorship opportunities are available on a variety of levels. Proceeds go to fund music education programs in schools and are tax deductible.
