Anaïs, A Dance Opera, created by composer/lyricist Cindy Shapiro and director/choreographer Janet Roston and produced by Mixed eMotion Theatrix, hits the stage of the Greenway Court Theatre on August 27th. This production will capture the audience’s imagination as they will be treated to a cutting edge performance that incorporates music, dance and visual projections that explores and illuminates the intriguing life of famed diarist and literary figure Anaïs Nin.
It appears that Anais Nin was a woman way ahead of her time. Roston continued speaking about the French author, “I like to think of her as the original blogger because she documented every aspect of her life since she was a little girl. She was self -aware like the way bloggers are now, so she can relate to the younger audience. Back then, she was achieving sexual agency before any other woman. She felt that however a man should live, a woman should have that same right to sexual freedom, creativity, and moving ahead as a novelist. She is a real example of feminism and female advancement.”
This contemporary stage production, Anais, A Dance Opera opens August 27, 2016 and runs through September 18, 2016 at the Greenway Court Theatre, 544 N Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036.
