Willis has built a reputation over the years as being the crème de la crème of party-throwers. Her events – often described as “a kid’s birthday party on acid” – feature her signature blend of sing-alongs, comedy, stories, games, and auctions, all tied together with Willis’ party-hosting panache. Long-time friend and frequenter of her parties Bruce Vilanch describes Willis as “a conceptual artist who uses all of her friends and all of the props in the world as her art.” Indeed, these parties are Willis’ art form.

No Allee Willis party would be complete without one of her signature auctions. This time, she’ll open up her personal collection of kitsch for the first time ever – one of the largest and most documented collections of 1950’s-1970’s soul, kitsch and pop culture collections in the world (she was once in the dictionary.com definition of “kitsch”).

Last month, Willis (a native Detroiter) threw the ultimate party when she debuted her magically funky, soulful, and inspiring new anthem “The D” — a record and video recorded over the course of five years and featuring more people in history than ever on a record before, with over 5,000 Detroit natives and celebrities — before over 3,000 people at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

The premiere party featured sing-alongs, a tribute by Willis to Motown arranger and Funk Brother Paul Riser, and a performance of Willis’ “Neutron Dance” by Willis and Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit. Guests feasted on Chef Greg’s Soul ‘N The Wall Boogaloo Wonderland sandwiches, named in part for Willis’ hit, “Boogie Wonderland,” and guests made history by collaborating on a companion art piece to “The D”, the 50 foot long “I Am The D” paper plate portrait wall, the largest installation of its kind ever undertaken in real time at an international museum.
