“The birth of my daughter, and also the passing of my mother, the intersection of both occurrences, the emotions and what I felt going through these experiences are written, heard, and expressed, and is really what gave birth to this album,” explained Gustavo Galindo, before taking the stage at on Thur. – Sept. 6, at the Gibson Showroom in Hollywood, [Ca], where fans, colleagues, fellow musicians, and the press were [highly] anticipating Galindo’s presence to hear the songs [of the new material] which make up the album rightfully named “Renacer,” [Spanish for the Rebirth].
Within a minute into his [live] performance of “Isla De Sal,” a song co-written by Galindo along with famed [Argentine] songwriter Claudia Brant, all his emotions [while singing and strumming his guitar] at the Gibson Showroom were definitely felt. It was evident Galindo has something special, not only in the lyrics of great written songs, but in the arrangements of the album’s [distinct] pop/rock “folky sound,” produced and recorded by Alan Saucedo, who also mixed eight out of the album’s ten songs.
“The songwriting process for this album came organically, I met [Claudia] Brant through an engineer / producer friend of mine name Sabastian Krys. Sabastian put us together, and me and Claudia collaborated on writing a few songs, two of which made the album,” eloquently explained Galindo, adding he also co-wrote songs for “Renacer,” with Leonel Garcia [of Sin Bandera], Stephy Ruiz, Stefano Vieni, Ale Alberti, Pablo Todd, Fernando Laura, and Balta Hinojosa.
Living between Mexico City [Mexico], and now Los Angeles, [Ca], Galindo explained why he felt it was important to include two English songs in the [predominately] Spanish album, “I think it was important for me since I’m bi-cultural and bi-lingual and I’ve been all my life, just to be able to switch between English and Spanish, it always felt so natural [that] I didn’t ever feel like I was doing a crossover, or doing it just for the sake of singing in English or being popular. Each language has its own power and its own energy to it, these songs in English happen to go really well on the album and they fit perfectly in the mold of the Spanish songs, its almost like you couldn’t tell if you were listening and if you didn’t know [either] Spanish or English, you’d [still] be able to feel them.”
Following his passion, gut instinct and being ready to take advantage of the opportunities as they arise while honing his skills have [always] taken Galindo to the next level.
“In 2008, I recorded and [independently] released a five song EP title “La Ciudad,” the EP eventually caught the attention of [mega] producer Gustavo Santaolalla of the Surco music record label, and In 2009 I was [the last artist] signed by him to Surco, and he produced my [first] album titled “Entre la Ciudad y el Mar,” which was nominated at the 54thAnnual Grammy Awards in 2011 under the Best Latin Pop, Rock, or Urban album category,” eloquently explained Galindo, who hopes [that among others] the Latin Recording Academy [too] will take notice of his “rebirth” in 2018.
