Jesika von Rabbit has released her new album Dessert Rock, and while the title may be a funny play on on words, the music is seriously good.
Known as “The Queen of the Hi Desert,” Jesika von Rabbit has been making fun music about her beloved desert region, but this time she takes a few pokes at her quirky surroundings and has fun doing it.
The LP Dessert Rock is a blend of offbeat and curious, and takes what we all take for granted and puts in in a new spotlight. Dessert Rock is serious music from a modern-day alternative talent who is doing it with all her heart and soul. It’s the second solo album for Jesika and the follow up to her 2015 LP Journey Mitchell, both on Dionysus Records.
Jesika von Rabbit: ‘I Take a Slightly Sweeter Approach’
“Amidst the heavy machismo and heavy rock guitar riffs of popular ‘Desert Rock’ bands, I’m taking a slightly sweeter approach,” Jesika said. “We empower the listeners and pull them down the rabbit hole and back up again.”
Jesika will headline the Hi-Hat on Oct. 8.
Jesika has a quirky act that deceives us but there is more here than what meets they eye. Jesika’s songs are magical and serious at the same time and they keep an upbeat outlook despite a challenging world around us. Her music might be familiar to TV fans because songs are used on various series and commercials.
‘Calypso Facto,’ ‘Palm Springs Livin” Outstanding Tracks
Our favorite tracks on Dessert Rock are “Calypso Facto,” which could put anyone in a good mood. “Palm Springs Livin’,” is a fun romp through a kitschy existence among the blue hairs in the heat. “Make Me Feel Better” is something we could expect to hear in a nightclub and Jesika gives a heart-rending cover of Culture Club’s “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me.”
This kind of ‘Dessert’ makes us want to go back for seconds.
